The Loewenberg & Gans Company of Appleton, Wisconsin advertises their suspenders for men with an endorsement from circus magnate P. T. Barnum claiming that they, like Barnum's Jumbo the Elephant, "are a 'big thing.'" Barnum's endorsement is dated May 12, 1882.
