Bate, Richard L.
Bate apologizes for not acknowledging his appreciation of the newsletter and forwarding new addresses. He brings the reader up to date with his movements, detailing his graduation from Anti Air-craft Officers School at Camp Davis, North Carolina and assignment to a separate battalion of automatic weapons. Al Scott replied to his letter, and he gives Scott's address as well as his own.

Dear Dr Post

I just received the post card which you mailed to my mother. She forwarded it to me.

I believe I owe you an apology for being neglectful about thanking you for the past issues of your news letter which I have received, and about giving you my new address each time I have moove moved this past 6 months.

I do hope that you don't think my previous lack of response reflects my appreciation[.] I have derived a great deal of pleasure from the news letters and look forward to receiving the issues to come.

Upon graduation from Anti Air-craft Officers school at Camp Davis N[orth].C[arolina]. I was instructed to report to Camp.[sic] Haan, Calif[ornia]. Here I have been assigned to a separate Battalion of Automatic weapons. As is usual with Junior Officers my first assignment in my new battery was that of mess officer. My potential duties will include a great deal more than just being mess officer though. I say potential duties because, since we have not as yet received our full quota of men most of my time is now spent instructing and learning and not in Battery functions as it eventually will be.

Finally, & much to my delight I received a reply to the letter I wrote to Al Scott, APO Box 913, S.F. over about 4 months ago. I wrote to him after I read Lt.[Lieutenant] Rodneys[sic] letter saying where the gang could be reached.

My address here at Camp Haan is now:
S[ergean]t. R.L. Bate
Btry [Battery] "D"
461st CA. [California] sep[arate] B[attalion]n A[nti-]A[ircraft].
Camp Haan.

I would certainly appreciate receiving more news letters here and I will be sure to give you a forwarding address when or probably after I leave this place

Sincerely
Dick Bate
