A collection of alternative and underground newspapers connected to San Diego State University. The project was conducted by by Leo Stezano as an internship for an MSLIS degree at Syracuse University (IST-971).


The following publications are included:

" Action Published by the Committee for Student Action, this publication discussed campus, local and national issues from a progressive point of view. The collection includes the first issue, published in April 1961.

" Evolve Published by the San Diego Young Americans for Freedom, this is a periodical with a conservative, anti-communism focus. It was published starting in 1960, and the collection includes issues through 1965 (Volumes 1-6).

" Fortnightly Republican This periodical was published by the San Diego College Young Republicans, as a venue for discussion of campus and local issues. The collection includes issues #1 and #2, published in April and May of 1970.

" Good Morning Teaspoon A publication focused on contemporary issues within the campus from a left-wing perspective. Published starting in 1966, collection includes issues through 1968 (Volumes 1-4).

" Input This was a publication of the Aztec Young Republicans, discussing campus issues from a conservative point of view. The collection includes the first issue, published in March of 1970.

" Inside the Beast Self-defined as a progressive third world voice, this publication discussed campus, and sociopolitical issues from a progressive point of view. It was published starting in 1972, and the collection features early issues from 1972 and early 1973.

" Now This periodical was published by the Students for a Democratic Society and contains discussion of relevant topics from a left wing perspective. The collection includes the first issue, published in November of 1965.

" Reflections Also published by the Aztec Young Republicans, this periodical had a local focus similar to that of the later Input. The collection includes the second issue, published in April of 1968.

" Sunrise This periodical called itself an official campus newspaper as well as an alternative to the Daily Aztec. It discussed campus and other relevant issues and assumed a progressive viewpoint. It was published starting in 1970, and the collection includes most of the first 24 issues, through early 1971.

" TheSan Diego State Free Press Published outside of campus but sponsored by the Committee for Student Action, this publication is similar in its approach and point of view to the already mentioned Action. The collection includes the first issue of the second volume, published in January 1965.

" The 2nd Revolution This is the newsletter of the Womens studies program at SDSU, containing meeting minutes as well as articles on contemporary issues focused on feminist concerns. It was published starting in 1970, and the collection includes issues through 1971.

" Womens Center Newsletter This is the newsletter of the San Diego Womens Center, containing meeting minutes and information on upcoming events of interest to the Centers constituency. The collection includes issues #1 and #3, published sometime around February of 1971.
