This yearbook is Volume 34, dedicated "to the new president of San Diego State College, Walter R. Hepner" (1935-1952). The "class of '36" was the first "to graduate from the 'New San Diego State College,'" which had the year before been the San Diego State Teachers College. Photographs include the building that became Hepner Hall and the dropoff from the parking area in front of Hepner Hall, construction of the Aztec Bowl, and actor Dick Powell, judge of the first campus beauty contest. A cartoon on the endpapers and flyleaves of the front and back shows a comical view of campus indicates that construction is ongoing. A cartoon spread inside shows world leaders standing or sitting on outlines of their countries, including Hitler in Germany, two Russians, a Briton remonstrating with a uniformed man, and Mussolini, while a bemused "Uncle Sam" looks on from the left curve of the globe.
