The section on sophomores in this annual starts with the statement that, "Men were scarce in the sophomore class, especially after the ERC [Enlisted Reserve Corps] groups were called." The "Montezuma" sculpture was back on its pedestal and accepting "homage to Monty" from rule-breaking freshmen (the pedestal was shown as empty in the 1942 yearbook). The "Math Department suddenly found its classes crowded" with men attemptiing to meet the requirement of mathematics for officers in the armed services. A "service flag" was inaugurated and kept up to date "with every former Aztec now in one of" the armed forces, and a scrap drive for the war was held. An air-raid drill is pictured on page 164.
