This yearbook is dedicated to "those Aztecs, now gold star men, who have given their lives to insure a future of peace ..." On the next page is a photograph of the Hepner Hall portal into which a serviceman in uniform is climbing with two children, and above which is a flag with a gold star and the number 72, and a black star with the number 2706. Presumably the first is the number of former students who died, and the second those who were still active in the armed forces of the United States. Included on the "In Memoriam" page is Franklin Delano Roosevelt: "Despite his handicap, he quietly and heroically worked for his people and his country ...." Of 58 seniors pictured, 5 were men. The Aztec News Letter sent to former students in the armed forces is shown as its March 1, 1945 issue, stating that the number of "Aztecs" who were "killed, missing, prisoners, and the mustered out" then numbered "over 200." All of "Book 5" (pages 149-168) is devoted to photographs and brief descriptions of students who died while serving in the military.
